Restoration and conservative rehabilitation of the external surfaces

The Tower, designed by architect Marcello Piacentini as part of his redevelopment plan for the exhibition area in the lower town, was inaugurated on 6 October 1924 in the presence of Benito Mussolini, as the most representative building of the ‘new urban center’. The restoration project involved the conservative restoration of the external surfaces, of great value, which were deteriorated by time and by atmospheric agents. Simultaneously with the sandblasting and consolidation operations of the stone decorative apparatuses in Brembate and Bagnatica stone, the different and precious marbles that make up the housing of the central window and the clock faces have been grouted in their cracks, cleaned and protected with a structured nanosilica solution dispersed in isopropyl alcohol.
